The Mother of God of Kazan is one of the most well known and revered Mother of God icons. Mary is portrayed with her head bowed towards Christ to her left. She has a look of deep solemnity, but at the same time deep tenderness.
The Basma Oklad(handworked silver metal frame) showcases intricate chased and repousse design of C-scrolls and rocailles; upon which are stamped, from left to right in Cyrillic letters the name of the master, the asst-master, the silver content, the city of Jaroslawl, and the date 1873.
